Wallcoverings that speak volumes.
Twice in the last few days, we’ve heard someone describe a gentleman’s suit as using “bespoke” tailoring. Most recently, it was in a newsletter from Phillip Jeffries, describing their new fall line of Tailored Linens wallcoverings.
“Bespoke” is a term we associate with British Lit classes and the kind of London clubs that don’t allow mere commoners inside. So we had to check it out.
Bespoke is in fact a British English term employed in a variety of applications to mean an item custom-made to the buyer’s specification – historically applied only to tailored clothing, shirts and other parts of men’s apparel involving measurement and fitting.
The word bespoke itself is derived from the verb to bespeak, to “speak for something”, in the specialized meaning “to give order for it to be made.” The term bespoke in fashion is reserved for individually patterned and crafted men’s clothing (analogous to women’s haute couture).
The more we thought about this, the more we liked how it applies to the handsome wallcoverings from Phillip Jeffries’ fall line. Their naturally textured wallcoverings always make a statement. And they are custom-ordered to fit the specific needs of the interior designer.
The Tailored Linens collection is inspired by the tailored look of men’s suiting, a sartorial splendor that is classic, comfortable and always in style. This latest collection of fabric for the walls employs a subtle horizontal weave and soft luster to create a sophisticated polish with a hint of texture. Woven of fine rayon yarns and laminated to a paper backing, the collection is available in ten chic suit-inspired neutrals – from deep charcoal to classic camel.
Come check out the latest fall fashions. The new Phillip Jeffries collection of bespoke lines speaks for itself.
