Turquoise -- it's a gem.
We’ve talked about turquoise previously – but we just had to point out that both Fresh Home and Texas Home and Living magazines recently featured trendy turquoise in their publications. In fact, both featured wallcoverings by York.
The paper show here (the sample furthest left) is from the Taramia Collection, with its gigantic turquoise peonies.
What is it about turquoise that makes it so popular? It certainly mixes and matches well. It feels fresh and cheerful. And it’s an organic color without being a boring old earth tone.
Of course, if we get technical, the color turquoise pulls its appeal from the stone turquoise, which has been considered a protection amulet as far back as the ancient Egyptians. Turquoise was also considered a symbol of wealth in many ancient cultures. Some even ascribe healing properties to turquoise, especially for joint pain, which helps explain its popularity in jewelry. Equally ubiquitous with ancient cultures, indigenous Navajo and Zuni peoples, and modern-day jewelers, turquoise seems here to stay as a stone and a color.
For interior designers, the best reason to embrace turquoise is probably the obvious – it makes for fabulous parings, from kitchen furnishings to furniture upholstery and from draperies to wallcoverings.
Stop by our showroom and let us show you some of our treasured turquoise fabrics, trims and wallcoverings.
There’s a lot to choose from. And each is a gem.
