The Media Room is the message.
In our previous blog, we talked about the Drawing Room of the 2010 Pasadena Showcase House, with its fabulous ceiling created by checker-boarding the hand-combed and custom-cut Wallteriors Loom paper.
Let’s continue to another room that owes its most dramatic design element to our friends at Wallteriors – the Family Media Room. Created by Designs of the Interior, this cosmopolitan space argues in favor of Marshall McLuan’s famous observation that “the medium is the message.” We suspect that in this case, the Media Room makes a stronger statement than any of the electronic media absorbed here.
Designs of the Interior principals, Genaro Lagdameo and Karen Shoener, noted that the Pasadena Showcase provided the ideal forum for proving their philosophy that green, sustainable design can be sophisticated and up-to-date. Included in this Media room are tables made from reclaimed wood, fabrics created from recycled plastics, and the fabulous Wallteriors surface materials, made by hand with water-based mediums.
The Wallteriors Damask pattern selected by Gernaro and Karen pays homage to the Craven home’s noble French ancestry. The oversized scale of the wall pattern, Damask medallions, was created using stacked, 36-inch overlapping squares to warm up the large room and add interest. For this project, the designers specified their own custom color for the paper – a terrific Grey-Green shade that lays a subtle color foundation for accents throughout the room.
Congratulations to Wallteriors and the designers who understand their essential design message: the word “custom” means “unlimited choices.”
