The ever-elegant York …
We stumbled across this wonderful pattern in York Wallcoverings’ “Elegance” collection and just had to smile.
There’s a “Coco Chanel“ saying that goes something like this …
“Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.”
Elegance, clearly, has less to do with fashion and everything to do with confidence, experienced self-possession, and personal style.
Just looking at a sample sheet for this assertive pattern, the notion of “elegance” may not be the first one that comes to mind. After all, the repeat is a bold 25 inches, and every bit of it is filled with a not-so-subtle sun pattern that feels both ancient and contemporary at the same time.
And yet …
Placed in a formal living room setting, with traditional furniture, the result is truly elegant.
This pattern, which is simply called “Texture” (ABA85010), is handsome, and even masculine, in the beige-on-brown scheme featured here. The design actually looks as though each sun has been individually hand stamped, which adds to the charm.
And it’s also offered in monochrome combinations – a pale, dusty rose color or a frosty, gray on white treatment – that push the pattern into a more understated contrast.
Both washable and strippable, this paper nicely handles the task of adding visual relief to a large, stark wall space. All without calling undue attention to itself.
And after all, isn’t that really the heart and soul of elegance?
We’re sure Coco would approve.
