It’s time to get serious about trifles.
Do you remember the first opulent room you walked into that totally captured your imagination? You may not recall the details, but if you think hard enough, you can most likely recollect some truly grand room – the parlor of a great aunt’s estate, the country club wedding reception of a favorite cousin, or the great room of an ivy-covered public building.
What made those rooms feel so sumptuous? The mahogany wainscoting? The brocade draperies? These big statements matter, to be sure, but most certainly, what sealed the deal had everything to do with the details. Take it from someone who knew:
“Trifles make perfection, but perfection is no trifle.”
~Michelangelo
The trifles we have in mind today are drapery finials. Consider the Canterbury catalog that is part of decofuse by Brimar.
These classic wooden designs present smooth silhouettes with modest details. Rich finishes add natural warmth to traditional window settings while blending with the overall décor. They are offered in nine styles with names that recollect the cast and locations of Shakespeare’s historical plays: Abbey, Westgate, Fordwich, Saxon, Rochester, Cathedral, Kent, Greyfriars and East Bridge.
Made from natural wood, each is offered in five natural wood finishes – Cherry, Ebony, Mahogany, Fruitwood and Walnut – with the color and grain variations one expects from beautiful wood. Of course, these are matched to fluted poles, wooden rings and brackets – all in those same natural woods.
One thing we like about this collection is how it instantly feels sumptuous and authentic.
A second thing we like is that it looks so rich – is so rich – without being extravagant. Some quick math lets us take care of a four-foot window (finials, pole, brackets and rings) for around $115 … or an eight-foot window for under $200. Where else is perfection made this affordable?
So take a cue from Michelangelo – don’t be afraid to trifle around.
